Texas comes together at the coast. Along the bays, working waterfronts, fishing families, ports, wildlife, recreation, local food, and generations of Texas history all depend on the same living system. The 13-county Gulf Coast region is already home to 7.3 million people, roughly one in five Texans, and more of the state’s people and economy depend on healthy bays every year.
By aligning high-impact and high-return restoration, responsible oyster harvest, existing science and industry knowledge, and new private investment, CPR seeks to catalyze and accelerate restoration at the scale Texas requires. We offer donors a credible path to help restore the reefs that protect the ecosystem, support communities, and carry forward a working coastal heritage.

The majority of reef restoration thus far has been funded by government programs, with important work also advanced by nonprofits, conservation organizations, and community partners across the coast. To meet the scale of need, Texas must increase philanthropic and corporate investment to accelerate strategic restorations across coastal bays. Texas has a unique opportunity to chart the future of our coastal bays. CPR seeks to bolster work underway and deliver new projects with public and private partners across Texas. Implementation Partnerships and Volunteers
Talking about rebuilding oyster reefs isn’t enough. We support organizations protecting existing reefs, conserving existing reefs, and putting oyster shells back in the bays to become the substrate for oyster larvae, growing naturally into new oysters and new reef. This couldn’t be possible without those who are willing to invest their sweat and time into the future of Texas’ oyster reefs.
